When upgrading a HP procurve switch, you can send a single command connecting to your tftp server and applying the image as a primary image as follows:
copy flash tftp <ip address> <image name.swi> primary
Type Y to accept and wait for completion after the message:
Validating and Writing System Software to FLASH...
You can run show flash and show version after to validate that its updated
show flash
show version
For it to take effect go ahead with a reboot.
