VirtualBox – “kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)”


Cannot start vm guest machines without the “kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)” error being thrown. The vms were part originally used on a different Macbook which was migrated using the Migration Assistant.


After reinstalling virtualbox I dug deeper and noticed that there was a warning in the settings dialog which suggested that the disabling of the USB port

Under the USB settings there was a usb filter which was removed and the “Enable” box unselected.

The vm guests were able to be run immediately after.
